Christine Sauer

Christine’s abstract, imaginative art is inspired by nature and science and an enjoyment of the process of making.  An intuitive and improvisational approach characterizes the artist’s diverse body of work that includes paintings, collage and fiber art. Over the last several years she has focused primarily on painting in acrylics, creating many vibrant and colorful works.  They are presented on this site in several thematic collections.

The artist has exhibited her art in solo and group shows in galleries, art centers and public venues around the country. Christine had a fiber piece, Orbit, on display in Flight Patterns at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in 2014- 2015.   Circulate, her solo show, was presented in 2015 at the River Oaks Art Center in Alexandria, La.  In 2014, Christine's work was exhibited in fiber at Fitton Center for Creative Arts in Hamilton, Ohio, and Stitched: Christine Sauer and Laura Gipson, at St. Tammany Art Association, Covington, La.   Her solo exhibition, Flourish, was presented at the University of New Orleans' St. Claude Gallery in 2012.  In June 2011, Christine Sauer, Textile Constructions, was shown at LeMieux Galleries in New Orleans.  She has work in several private and public collections.

In 2013 Christine was chosen and certified for the GOLDEN Artist Educator Program sponsored by the artist paint company Golden Artist Colors, Inc.  The artist is a workshop instructor in painting, collage and fibers. She has earned several awards and grants including a Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation Grant in 2011.  She was also chosen by the Louisiana Division of the Arts for two Creative Capital sponsored retreats that focused on Artists and the Internet and Artist as Entrepreneur in 2010 and 2011. 

Christine taught K-12 art in private and public schools for over 20 years. The artist served as the Head of the Art Department of St. Martin's Episcopal School, a local private school for many years before “rewiring” to become a full time studio artist in 2010.  She currently lives and works in New Orleans, Louisiana. Christine grew up in upstate New York and attended SUNY Potsdam College of Arts and Science where she earned a B.A. with a Concentration in Sculpture. She moved to Louisiana and attended the University of New Orleans where she was awarded a Teaching Assistantship and earned an M.F.A in Painting.
